"The words that I speak to you, they are Spirit and they are life” — John 6:63
I heard my zonal minister in church one evening after quoting that scripture, says, "The more of God's Word we consume, the more life we have". It dawned on me that it is possible to be walking in the human body, and not live. You can only live when you are full of life- the Word of God. God's word is God's wisdom in print and there are many treasures embedded in it, and if applied can transform our lives beyond our imagination.
My days in secondary school were vital to my spiritual growth and my growth in the knowledge of God's word (Biblical wisdom). I would say my dad was positively involved in a way because he had those books in his room, and I simply fell in love reading books written by Bishop David Oyedepo.
Entering the university granted me access to books written by other authors addressing different aspects of life. The quest to know and keep growing in knowledge makes me buy and download books (mostly books written with the Word of God as the foundation), even when I'm not sure of the time I would be able read them.
I grew up with the mindset of having the Word of God as the foundation for the views I hold about life, and it helped me a great deal, especially in my academics. I remember vividly in SSS 1 or 2 when I read the book "Towards Mental Exploits" by Bishop David Oyedepo. The light I obtained then still lives with me, further reassuring me that although some succeed without God, the success obtained through the help and inspiration from God is truly sweet.
There are different scenarios where the wisdom from God's Word has guided my actions. The year 2021 was a remarkable one. I remember listening to Pastor Mildred Okonkwo, and her sermon prompted me to find scriptures relating to the areas I desired breakthrough, meditate on them and confess them. I wrote out a lot of scriptures on success and divine direction. Two scriptures stood out and kept me sane even when my situation was the opposite of what God said He has planned. But in the end, my miracle came.
2 Chronicles 15:7 taught me about persistence and consistency. I kept sending in study applications even after constant rejections. I remember how I kept muttering to myself, "my works shall be rewarded" simply because I saw it in that scripture. So, I kept working and doing the things I could do.
Proverbs 16:3 unveiled to me that God has the power to align my thoughts with His Will, so I won't go astray. It helped eradicate the fear of not walking in God's will. Together with the light from Philippians 2:13, I constantly reminded myself that I am able to know and walk in God's will.
Many seasons of our lives would require word encounters. Though distinct, each of these encounters signifies the ability of God's wisdom to change lives.
Often, we know what to do, but doing it becomes difficult. Just like Paul, sometimes, I have found myself not doing the things I want to do, especially with finding knowledge. However, in my journey of seeking knowledge, I have come to realise that desire is mandatory before any solid action can be taken. If the desire to grow in knowledge or any area, is not strong enough, you will never take action. Most of our inactions can be traced to a not-too-strong desire to achieve our goals.
Though I have heard countless times where people talk about feeding on one chapter of Proverbs per day, I have not actually done this. But one thing I know is that there is wisdom and power in God's word to birth remarkable results.
The ProverbsChallenge is simply one avenue to turn your desire for wisdom and knowledge into actions. The wisdom in God's Word will remain dormant except we choose to stir it up by consuming it and applying it.
Cheers to growth!
